Why I Keep My Study Door Closed

I get up early in the morning to write. I have three cats. Combined, these things do not result in a productive environment.

Short Circuits

In early February, I directed and edited a bunch of short (extremely short) music videos for SoCal psychedelic punk band Roosterhead, for their new album Short Circuits.

Short Circuits is Roosterhead's exploration into writing captivating sub-minute-length songs, with a lyrical emphasis on relevant social and political commentary. The 14 songs in 12 minutes are a barrage of concise, compact statements that avoid taking even an extra second to get their points across.

All 14 videos were shot over the course of a week on zero budget, and highlighted the band's colorful DIY aesthetic. I directed A Game of Replacement, Apocalyptic SightseeingJune Gloom And The Celestial Loneliness, Rat Race At The End Of The Rainbow and Attitude For Sale. I was DP on The Tribe, MUA on Anthropomorphic Everyday Objects, one pair of arms on Independent Princess, and Chief Cat Wrangler on Don't Fry My Mind.

Check out all 14 videos here (total run-time 12 minutes):

Welcome to 2017

2017 is going to be a busy one! Irons in fire include a new TV pilot my agents are currently going out with; a feature film I plan to have completed by the end of February; at least two music videos to direct (and a whole bunch I'll be editing); a horror/sci-fi VR project; a board game; a new podcast; and hopefully lots of general meetings to expand my network and opportunities.

In other news, I'm off social media entirely - and I couldn't be happier about it!

2016 So Far

Year so far: feature script finished and sent to a bunch of contests (where it's doing well); directed a music video; wrote a spec pilot (twice); ended the run on one podcast and started a new podcast (details coming soon); joined a britpop tribute band as its frontman; formed a paranormal investigation team; some episodes of EDDIE IS A YETI that I wrote finally aired; made the Black List TV Staffing Book.

...And there are still four months of the year left.

Holy Moxy!

I started a podcast with my good friend and fellow screenwriter, Kelly Rhone. We cover a wide (and quite random) range of topics including movies, writing, comics and life in Los Angeles.

Kelly and I previously collaborated on the Mad Max Fury Road spoof, "Got Fury?"

Black Hills

Earlier this month, I posted my supernatural western pilot, BLACK HILLS, on the Black List website, where it can be read and reviewed by industry professionals.

LOGLINE: In 1832, a remote trading post on the very edge of the American Frontier is besieged by a dark supernatural power. While the occupants struggle to identify a murderer in their midst, old secrets and lies come to the surface and a discovery is made that will affect every man and woman in the Black Hills. Tonally think SALEM with a hint of David Lynch.

The script received a great review from one of the Black List's professional readers, who said:

"This pilot is absolutely overflowing with potential, feeling like a cross between DEADWOOD and AMERICAN HORROR STORY, with shocking twists and reveals, excellent dialogue, and compelling characters."

It's available for download to industry members - but only for a limited time, so please read it and rate it while you can!

Young & Hungry

I'm extremely happy to see I made the Tracking Board's 2014 Young & Hungry List!

Every year, The Young & Hungry List is compiled from across the industry, proudly showcasing those writers most eager to stake their claim. Voted on by Hollywood’s most influential players, each list distinguishes a fresh slate of up-and-coming creatives preparing to take the next step in their careers. Whether it be a newcomer making their first big splash, a sophomore writer coming into their prime, or an established veteran returning to their roots, they all share one thing: the unrelenting drive to make their mark.
